Turkish conglomerate Borusan Holding’s energy company has started the construction of a wind power plant in the northwestern province of Tekirdağ Turkey, which is slated to have 50 megawatts.
Borusan EnBW Energy aims for the power plant to come into operation by the end of next year, General Manager Mehmet Acarla said during the groundbreaking ceremony in the Balaban district of Tekirdağ late on Sept. 18.
Acarla said they planned to increase their investment in renewable energy to $1.3 billion next year, adding that they had other wind power plant projects in Turkey in the pipeline. The company plans to establish a wind power plant with 30 mW installed power in İzmir and also 50 mW installed powered-plants in the northwestern provinces of Çanakkale and Bursa and the southern province of Mersin.
“We will also start project in the Gulf of Saros region in Çanakkale that will be one of the biggest wind power plants, with 138 MW. We foresee reaching 455 MW in the medium term and more than 1,000 MW in the long term in wind power,” he said. Hurriyet daily News.
