Renewable energy specialist Kedco has revealed that the Pluckanes wind farm in County Cork, Ireland, now has the full backing of the authorities.

Kedco’s subsidiary Pluckanes Windfarm Ltd has now been given planning permission and an offer to connect to the national grid.

It has finalised and signed a contract with Enercon, the world’s fourth largest wind turbine manufacturer, for the supply and installation of an E48 800 kilowatt wind turbine. The civil works for the project will be carried out by Cro Bar Construction.

Gerry Madden, Kedco’s chief executive, said: “The board is delighted with progress on the Pluckanes wind project and looks forward to construction works starting in the coming weeks.

“We expect to make further announcements regarding other single wind turbine projects in the near future, and we look forward to updating shareholders as appropriate.”

Construction is expected to begin in early June, with electricity generated by the end of September.

Pluckanes has also secured €1.15 million of senior term loans with Allied Irish Banks to fund the project’s construction.
