The two companies will also explore the possibilities of collaboration on innovation projects linked to electric mobility and technological initiatives with a view to exchanging information and helping to improve market penetration for this type of cars.
IBERDROLA and BMW Ibérica entered into an agreement today with the ultimate goal of advancing the progressive roll-out of electric mobility in Spain, as part of the commitment towards sustainability and technological innovation shared by the two companies.
The agreement was signed this morning in Madrid by Guenther Seemann, Executive Chairman of the vehicle manufacturer, and Aitor Moso, Retail Manager in the electrical utility.
The agreement has been entered into for a year and will be renewed on an annual basis unless either of the parties decides otherwise. It provides a framework for collaboration that includes mutual recommendation of the products and services currently offered by the two companies in the area of electric mobility, as well as many other aspects.
IBERDROLA therefore undertakes to guide its customers towards choosing electric vehicles manufactured by BMW, while the car manufacturer will do the same in relation to IBERDROLA's Green Energy supply, 100% from renewable sources.
Under the terms of the arrangement, the two companies will also explore the possibilities of collaboration on innovation projects linked to electric mobility and technological initiatives with a view to exchanging information and helping to improve market penetration for this type of cars.
As part of this context of collaboration, IBERDROLA designed and carried out the installation of charging points for electric vehicles at the corporate headquarters of BMW Ibérica, as well as at the exclusive BMW i points of sale.
The BMW Group is the leading premium manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles in the world with its BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands.  As a global company, the BMW Group operates 28 production and assembly facilities in 13 countries and has a global sales network in more than 140 countries.
In 2012, the BMW sold about 1.85 million cars and more than 117,000 motorcycles worldwide. The profit before tax for the financial year 2012 was €7.82 billion. At 31 December 2012, the BMW Group had a workforce of 105,876 employees.
The success of the BMW Group has always been built on long-term thinking and responsible action. The company has therefore established ecological and social sustainability throughout the value chain, comprehensive product responsibility and a clear commitment to conserving resources as an integral part of its strategy.
IBERDROLA is a private company that operates on a global scale, with extensive experience arising from over 150 years of history. With some 32,000 employees in dozens of countries all over the world, it serves approximately 31 million customers. As a result of its strong growth and internationalisation process, started in 2001, IBERDROLA is now the premier Spanish energy group and the world leader in the wind energy sector.
Having made its first commitment to electric mobility over 10 years ago, the company now runs the IBERDROLA Green Mobility Plan. This is the first comprehensive electric mobility solution in Spain and it offers users the possibility of acquiring an electric vehicle on hire purchase, including the installation of the charging point and a 100% renewable energy supply.
IBERDROLA's commitment to electric mobility is visible in its development of sustainable business models and bringing electric vehicles closer to the general public, companies and administrations.
Some of the electric utility's most important projects in this field include: setting up the first public e-carsharing service in Spain (in collaboration with various institutions and featuring 100% electric vehicles), which has been in operation in Guipúzcoa province since January 2011; developing the first interurban public electric bus service in Spain,  involving the replacement of two conventional urban bus lines with two electric buses in Biscay province; rolling out the first corporate e-carsharing service in Spain, with over 300 users in the cities of Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Valencia, Valladolid and Seville; promoting mobility with electric motorcycles in Barcelona, including the installation of 34 charging points for which the company is responsible for the charging process; and the launch of electric mobility solutions for fleets, including the supply of 13 electric vehicles and 13 charging points for managing courier and parcel delivery services in the Regional Government of Andalusia.
In the year 2012, IBERDROLA avoided the emission of some 52 tonnes of CO2 thanks to its sustainable mobility initiatives in Spain.
