Uzbekistan looks to attract loan for construction of photovoltaic solar power plant

Uzbekistan plans to attract a loan from the South Korean government for construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant with capacity of 100 megawatt in Samarkand province, a source at Uzbekistan's governmental circles told Trend on Dec.20.

During the recent visit of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov to South Korea, there was signed an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding envisaging technical and financial participation of South Korea in the development of solar energy in Uzbekistan, according to the source.
"In accordance with the preliminarily reached agreements, the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of South Korea will allocate loan funds in the amount of $75 million for implementation of this project," the source said.
It was earlier reported that the project for construction of the first photovoltaic solar power plant in Central Asia envisages the installation of generating facilities of 100 megawatt with a capacity of 200 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The project is to be implemented by 2018.
