The inauguration of the wind farm, which has a total installed capacity of 20 MW, was attended by local representatives and figures from the Italian wind power sector.

EDP Renewables, a global leader in the renewable energy sector and the world's third-largest wind energy producer, inaugurated its first wind farm in Italy last Friday, which was commissioned in December 2012. The ceremony was attended by Gianluca Veneroni, Managing Director of EDP Renewables in Italy, Francesco Nigro, Mayor of Villa Castelli, and Simone Togni, President of the Italian Wind Power Association.

The new wind farm is located in the town of Villa Castelli, which is in the province of Brindisi in the Apulia region, renowned for its olive plantations and the production of excellent quality olive oil.

The wind farm comprises ten V90 wind turbines with a capacity of 2 MW each, providing a total installed capacity of 20 MW. The connection infrastructure was developed and implemented by EDPR, connecting the farm to the grid through the Brindisi-Taranto line. EDP Renewables expects the wind farm to generate an output of around 40 Gwh/year.

This wind farm will be selling electricity through a visible remuneration scheme in place in Italy for the first 15 years of operation.
