GeoSea secured a new EPCI contract for the design, supply and installation of the foundations and another contract for the installation of 15 wind turbines for the Kentish Flats Extension Offshore Wind Farm from Vattenfall, one of the largest operators of offshore wind farms.
Kentish Flats Extension is a new offshore wind project situated off the North Kent coast (UK) and is an extension to the existing Kentish Flats Wind Farm. For this job, GeoSea will design, supply and install 15 wind turbine foundations deploying one of its jack-up vessels. Subsequently, GeoSea will install 15 wind turbines. Works will start in the spring of 2015.
The project has several unique features, which include very shallow waters, tidal dependence and innovative foundation design.
In the coming months, GeoSea will actively engage with the local supply chain in Kent to maximize local business content in Kentish Flats Extension. In order to ensure that local companies are involved, a local supplier event has been organized by Vattenfall with active participation by GeoSea and other key players.
More recently, DONG Energy, the world’s largest offshore wind farm operator, awarded a Foundations Transport and Installation contract for the Gode Wind offshore wind farms. The Gode Wind offshore wind farms are located in the German Bight 45km from the shore. GeoSea was previously involved in the construction of the Alpha Ventus and Borkum West wind farms in this area.
The latest contract includes installing the monopile foundations, as well as the transport of the foundations from the manufacturer to the base port, Eemshaven. GeoSea’s sister company Tideway is responsible for the erosion protection.
The project will start in the spring of 2015 with the installation of 42 foundations at Gode Wind 02, followed by 55 foundations at Gode Wind 01.
