The Bureau of Energy raised Taiwan's target for installed solar power capacity in 2013 from 130 MW to 175 MW, the second time the target has been raised in eight months.
The bureau previously increased the 2013 target from 100MW to 130MW in November last year.
The more ambitious goals are part of a strategy to strengthen Taiwan's use of solar power and its solar cell industry that includes a "million solar rooftop program," a technology upgrade and expansion in overseas markets.
According to the bureau, the strategy will help increase the domestic solar industry's output value by NT$17.5 billion (US$580 million) a year.
To ensure that the sector has the financing needed to support its growth, the bureau has invited 10 banks to provide financial backing for the sector and work with research institutes to develop a financial model for domestic solar power systems.
