The Al Abdaliyah Integrated Solar Combined Cycle Project will be a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant, similar to this project built in the UAE by Masdar.

Kuwait’s Partnerships Technical Bureau (PTB) and Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) have sent out expression of interest (EOI) requests for the Al Abdaliyah Integrated Solar Combined Cycle Project.  Developers have been informed that they must respond to the request by 23 July 2014.

The Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project, which will be located in Abdaliyah, Kuwait, is set to be the first solar thermal plant built in the country. The total capacity of the plant is set at 280 MW, with 60 MW of that being generated by solar power, the rest from gas.

The project started up as a proposal by the Toyota Tsusho Corporation. As the original creator of the project, the Toyota Tsusho Corporation is granted up to a 5%  commercial edge over other potential bidders when it comes to evaluation scores.

Whichever company wins the bid and earns the rights to the project will be responsible for the financing, design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant and will need to sign an energy conversion and power-purchase agreement (ECPA) with the ministry of Electricity and Water.
