The contract covers 30 3MW wind turbines made up of 21 AW116/3000 and nine AW125/3000 machines.
Delivery is slated in 2015 and the wind turbines will be mounted on 100 and 120-metre concrete towers at the wind farm in Ceara state.
The towers will be assembled on site using a method created by Acciona Windpower for other wind farms in Brazil, the company said.
“The contract with Rio Energy is another example of the excellent reception that the Brazilian wind power market has given our biggest wind turbine within the AW3000 series,” said Acciona Windpower Brazil director Christiano Forman.
Meanwhile, Acciona Windpower has also signed a letter of intent with Rio Energy for 39 additional wind turbines totaling 117MW for use in other wind farms in the Itarema project. The agreement “should be formalised in the next few months”.
