Jamaica Signs Agreements for 78 Megawatts of Wind Energy and Solar Power Projects

The two wind farms and solar facility will cost $196 million, the island nation’s power utility said in a statement yesterday. Blue Mountain Renewables LLC’s project will be capable of generating 34 megawatts at a cost of $90 million. Petroleum Corp. of Jamaica’s plans to spend $46 million to build a third wind farm which will generate 24 megawatts. 


Jamaica Public Service Co. signed 20-year power purchase agreements with three renewable energy providers for projects that will be completed by the end of next year.  
WRB Enterprises Inc., a closely held Florida-based company that operates Grenada’s electric utility, will build the 20-megawatt solar facility, which will cost $60 million.
“This will be the largest photovoltaic installation in the English-speaking Caribbean,” WRB Chief Executive Officer Bob Blanchard said in a statement today.
