Egypt's El Sewedy Electric plans to finalise Gebel El Zeit project to build a network of 600-megawatt wind power farms within 3 years, vice president Wael Hamdy said.
In a statement to Amwal Al Ghad, Hamdy revealed that the total cost of Gebel El Zeit project is exceeding US$ one billion.
El Sewedy Electric will start in the coming phase studies on measurements of wind speed in addition to key environment and to topographic studies, the official noted.
Last March, Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced an ambitious plan to increase the contribution of renewable energy to electricity production in 2020 to 20% (12% wind and 8% from other sources (hydraulic and solar)). It also includes the participation of the private sector in 67% of the wind farms.
