GE (NYSE: GE) announced European wind farm operators ENERTRAG AG and Monsson Group have selected GE’s Wind PowerUp* for wind farms in Germany and Romania. PowerUp services, a GE Predictivity* solution, allows wind farm operators to increase annual energy production (AEP) by up to 5 percent, taking into account environmental conditions. A 5 percent increase in energy output translates to up to 20 percent increase in profit per turbine. GE made the announcement during WindENERGY Global On- & Offshore Expo 2014, taking place September 23-26, in Hamburg.

PowerUp services will be installed on seven GE 2.3 megawatt (MW) and thirteen 2.5MW wind turbines at Enertrag’s wind farms Kleisthöhe and Grünberg Trampe and eight GE 2.5-100 MW at Monsson Group’s wind farms Miraesa II, Galbiori, & Silistea II. In May 2014, GE announced that PowerUp services had reached more than 1,000 units operating worldwide, representing a potential 194 gigawatt hours of additional energy per year added for GE customers.

“With the PowerUp software upgrades, we want to increase the annual energy production of selected wind turbines. We pursue our goal of making wind turbines even more efficient and producing the most wind power possible from the existing units. Combined with our ENERTRAG PowerSystem, we expect optimized results”, says Jörg Müller, chief executive officer of ENERTRAG. ENERTRAG will verify the increased power output through the tool PowerSystem, developed by the company.

“GE's PowerUp software will allow us to increase power output within the Green Certificates framework”, says Sebastian Enache, Business Development Manager of Monsson Group. “As a renewable energy project developer and O&M provider operating in Romania and Europe, we set great value upon being a leader in innovation and exploring customized ways to make more out of existing units for us and for our Customers, such as PowerUp services.”

“Executed through a cooperative, phased approach that takes a holistic view of the assets, system and network, PowerUp services enable a wind farm to generate more from the available wind”, said Andy Holt, General Manager of Projects & Services at GE’s renewable energy business. “PowerUp services are ideal for customers such as ENERTRAG and Monsson Group, to provide even more power from their wind farms to benefit the communities in Germany and Romania.”

GE Predictivity solutions tap into the power of the Industrial Internet. PowerUp services are part of GE’s brilliant wind platform which utilizes the Industrial Internet to analyze tens of thousands of data points on a wind farm every second, driving higher output and tailoring the wind turbine to its wind site conditions.

ENERTRAG combines all the expertise for the operation of wind turbines and the generation and supply of renewable energy, from planning, technology development and financing to construction and operational management up to the feed into the power grid. With 400 employees, an extensive service network and more than 540 to date installed turbines, ENERTRAG is one of the leading wind power providers in Europe.

Present on the Romanian and European wind markets, Monsson Group has developed projects with a total capacity of 2,400 MW in Romania, including 1,700 MW that have already received relevant authorization. The company has built some 1000 MW in the country and has sold projects with a total capacity of 850 MW to companies such as CEZ, OMV Petrom, ButanGas and STEAG, representing 25% market share of the operational wind farms.
Monsson Group comprises 6 companies, Monsson Alma, Wind Power Energy, Monsson Operation, Monsson Energy Trading,Monsson Logistic, Monsson Hydro which develop, operate and provide consultation services for wind, solar and small hydro plants, as well as trade energy.Starting with this year, Emon is also part of Monsson Group.
