Enel Green Power at Italy-Africa: Working Together for a Sustainable Energy Future, a conference being held in Rome promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Africa-EU energy partnership.
Italy is helping to put the spotlight on Sub-Saharan Africa thanks to the Italy-Africa initiative, through which the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of International Cooperation has organised the ministerial conference Italy-Africa: Working Together for a Sustainable Energy Future, which is being held in Rome over 13-14 October.
The conference begins today with a technical workshop in cooperation with the Africa-EU energy partnership (AEEP), while on Tuesday the High Level Energy segment will take place, as well as the world premiere of the International Energy Agency’s report Africa Energy Outlook.
Enel is an event partner and its CEO Francesco Starace will be taking part in the event. Francesco Venturini, EGP CEO will deliver the opening remarks in the first of the four panels scheduled for Tuesday that respectively focus on:
- Competitive development of renewable energy technologies: why multi-year pluri-technological plans are crucial;
- Electricity infrastructures as a factor for sustainable development and integration;
- Natural resource based development;
- Urbanisation, energy and education for sustainable development.
Enel Green Power put its first PV solar power plant in Africa online in May and the green energy business is now set on expanding its wind power operations. In South Africa it has grid-connected the 10 megawatt Upington facility, and over the next few years it is planning to install an additional 300MW of PV solar capacity, as well as almost 200MW of wind power capacity. EGP is also set to grow on the continent’s Mediterranean coast, joining a Moroccan consortium certified by the Office National de l'Electricité that is participating in the final stage of a tender for the construction of five wind farms with a total capacity of 850MW.
