Vestas introduces newest wind turbine technology to China; latest variants of V110-2.0 MW and V100-2.0 MW wind turbines and flexible service packages are key elements in achieving profitable growth in world’s largest wind energy market.
Today in Beijing, global wind energy leader Vestas Wind Systems unveiled the two latest additions to its turbine technology portfolio for the China market. Vestas will now make available to customers in China its most technologically advanced variants in its highly proven 2 MW platform – the V110-2.0 MW and the V100-2.0 MW. In addition to this, Vestas has also announced it will introduce new tailor-made service packages and aftermarket solutions.
For Vestas’ customers in China, the introduction of the company’s newest 2.0 MW turbine variants will mean lower lifetime costs of energy and greater business case certainty. Built on technology that has been proven in the field for more than a decade, the V110-2.0 MW and the V100-2.0 MW provide industry-leading reliability, serviceability, and availability. These wind turbines are well-suited for China’s low- and medium-wind sites. Vestas is firmly committed to low and ultra-low wind sites in China. These large rotor turbine variants are a first step towards a 2 MW portfolio customized to the Chinese low wind regime.
Speaking in Beijing, Vestas Chief Executive Officer Anders Runevad says, “The introduction of the V110-2.0 MW and V100-2.0 MW is our most targeted response to date to the specific challenges and opportunities in the world’s largest wind energy market.” Mr. Runevad continued, “We look forward to a new era in this strategically important market and will continue striving to create deeper and more extensive partnerships with our customers here by shaping our service and technology offerings to suit their needs.”
Key features and benefits of V110-2.0 MW and V100-2.0 MW turbines
In order to help customers maximize the energy output of existing and future fleets and reduce the risks they face, Vestas introduces tailor-made service packages along with aftermarket solutions. Tailor-made service packages will to a wider extent be designed in collaboration with our customers, rather than relying exclusively on standard service arrangements, introducing a degree of flexibility to better deliver on our customers’ business case.
“The launch of the offerings at CWP signals a more extensive and deeper collaboration between Vestas and our partners in the Chinese market.” Chris Beaufait, President of Vestas Asia Pacific & China said, “By introducing our leading products and best-in-class operation and maintenance capabilities through long term partnerships in China, we can effectively support the development of wind energy in China, bringing renewable energy to millions of Chinese homes every day.”
Vestas installed its first wind turbines in China in 1986. More than 1,900 dedicated Vestas employees provide high-quality wind energy solutions to millions of homes in China. The company’s largest global integrated manufacturing complex is located in Tianjin, China, producing generators, blades, nacelles, hubs and control systems. As of June 30, 2014, Vestas has installed more than 4,300 MW in China.
Globally, Vestas has installed more than 52,000 wind turbines, reducing carbon emissions by over 60 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence. Vestas has delivered wind energy in 73 countries, providing jobs for around 17,500 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world. With 52 per cent more megawatts installed than our closest competitor and more than 62 GW of cumulative installed capacity worldwide, Vestas is the world leader in wind energy.

Key features and benefits of V110-2.0 MW and V100-2.0 MW turbines
- The new V110-2.0MW 110m rotor turbine variant is designed specifically for low wind sites with cut-in speeds starting at 3m/s, ideal for wind conditions in China.
On the V100-2.0 MW and the V110-2.0 MW, increased rotor sizes and upgrades to the turbines can enhance the AEP by up to 17% and 18% respectively, compared to previous versions in China. - OptiStopTM pitching control strategy ensures a gentle transition to turbine stop, reducing loads by up to 18 per cent allowing for a lighter structure translating into significant savings on certain components.
- The 2 MW platform is highly proven. Since 2002, we have installed more than 13,000 turbines worldwide from our 2 MW platform
- The 2 MW platform performs extremely well, with a global Lost Production Factor (LPF) of below 2 per cent (rolling, under service).
- In China, the 2 MW platform operates with an average LPF of 0.5% (rolling, under service).
