Siemens Canada Limited will provide delivery and installation of 46 SWT-2.3-113 direct-drive wind turbines to the Cedar Point project in Sarnia, ON. The 100 MW agreement also includes a 2-year service and maintenance agreement, ensuring the reliability, availability and performance of the wind turbines.
All 138 55 -meter blades will be manufactured at the Siemens wind turbine blade facility in Tillsonburg, ON and all steel towers will be manufactured in the Province. The project further demonstrates the progress of the Green Energy Act as part of the Province's commitment to economic growth and environmental sustainability.
Siemens direct drive wind turbines feature only half of the parts required for a conventional geared wind turbine and a significantly smaller number of moving parts. The efficiency increases due to minimum losses in drive train and generator. The proven technology of the SWT-2.3-113 benefits from the experiences of 250 gearless Siemens wind turbines in operation. With its simplified lightweight design it's a secure and profitable investment.
