MidAmerican Energy signs wind power contract with Siemens for Iowa wind energy projects

Siemens will provide service and maintenance at 12 MidAmerican Energy Company wind energy projects in Iowa through June 2024. Combined capacity of more than 2 gigawatts (GW). Largest onshore wind power service contract to date for Siemens.

 

Siemens has signed a long-term agreement with MidAmerican Energy to provide service and maintenance for 958 SWT-2.3 turbines at 12 wind projects in Iowa. This represents the largest onshore service agreement to date for Siemens globally. Combined, these 12 wind projects have a capacity of more than 2.2 GW, enough to provide approximately 665,000 average Iowa homes with clean energy.

Under terms of the agreement, Siemens will provide approximately 10 years of service and maintenance for eight MidAmerican wind projects currently in operation as well as four additional projects that are scheduled to become operational during the term of the agreement. Siemens service technicians and engineers will be working and living in and around these Iowa wind projects over the course of the agreement providing significant and sustained economic benefits to the region.

MidAmerican Energy and Siemens have worked together since 2008 developing significant renewable energy resources in Iowa, benefitting local utility customers and residents. Additionally, Siemens has a wind turbine blade manufacturing plant in Ft. Madison, where blades for many of the projects were manufactured.

Siemens currently provides service and maintenance for more than 3,100 installed wind turbines in the Americas region and more than 7,600 globally, with a combined generating capacity of approximately 18 gigawatts (GW).
