Over the past few months, Nordex SE has received contracts for the delivery of a total of 31 multi-megawatt turbines for several wind farms in Germany.
Leading the race once again was the N117/2400 light wind turbine, of which 24 alone have been sold. Nordex will be installing five of these turbines at the “Kirchhain” wind farm near Hohenahr in North Hesse for its long-standing customer Abo Wind. A further seven turbines will be delivered to BOREAS Energie GmbH for the Hochheim I-III wind farms near Gotha in Thuringia. In response to the heightened demand from Thuringia - as also reflected in contracts received from meridian Neue Energie GmbH at the beginning of the year - Nordex will be establishing two local service points in this state close to the wind farms.
The latest orders also include three Generation Delta turbines, which Nordex is installing at sites in Germany with medium and strong winds for the first time. Thus, it is installing an N117/3000 turbine at the Janneby citizen-owned wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein as well as an N100/3300 on towers of different hub heights. The third turbine - an N117/3000 mounted on a 141-metre hybrid tower - has been ordered by local utility Hamburg Energie for the Köhlbrandhöft in the port of Hamburg close to the Elbe tunnel.
The main reasons for the contract awards were the economic efficiency displayed by the turbines as well as the favourable past experience which customers have of Nordex turbines and service. Regionally, the company’s activities in Germany for the N117/2400 are concentrating on the states of Bavaria, Thuringia, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. With the commencement of series production of Generation Delta in 2014, customers at coastal locations with medium and strong wind conditions as well as in high-altitude non-coastal locations will benefit from the highly efficient turbines. Says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of Nordex’s Management Board: “Thanks to the recent contract awards, we see a good chance of additionally reinforcing our market position in Germany. And I am pleased that we are achieving this not only with the N117/2400 for low wind locations but also with our Generation Delta wind turbines for windy sites like in Northern Germany.”
