wpd europe GmbH has again awarded Nordex SE a contract for the delivery and installation of twelve Generation Delta turbines for a wind farm in Finland plus a 15-year premium service contract.
Comprising twelve N117/3000 turbines, the “Jokela” wind farm is to be constructed from mid 2015 close to the town of Kalajoki in western Finland, where annual average wind speeds of approx. 7.8 metres per second are measured. The N117/3000 turbines have been specially designed for such medium wind speeds. In view of the difficult weather conditions prevailing at the site, cold-climate versions of the turbine will be installed. With a hub height of 141 metres and an installed nominal output of three megawatts per turbine, the 36 MW wind farm will generate the highest possible electricity yield. Annual production output of 119 GWh has been forecast.
“Jokela” is wpd’s second project in Finland with Nordex. In early 2014 it had placed an order with Nordex for eleven N117/3000 turbines for the “Mäkikangas” wind farm. “On the basis of their technical specifications, the N117/3000 turbines are a very good fit for the local weather conditions and we are eagerly awaiting the preliminary results following the start-up of our “Mäkikangas” wind farm. We are confident of having found in Nordex a partner for the two wind farms capable of providing an ideal combination of technology and service,” says Birgit Schneider, the country manager at wpd responsible for Finland and Sweden.
