The government of Surinam announced it will invest in producing solar energy to electrify remote communities in that nation. The pilot project will be carried out in Gunzi, in Surinam, and nearly 50 families will be benefited with the program.
The energy generated by solar panels that will be set up will be enough for refrigerators, for charging cell phones, use the radio and other basic services.
This plan will be implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources, U.S. WTEC company, Surinamâ?Ös EBS electricity company and the Anton de Kom University of Surinam.
This University will train students in technical aspects related to solar energy, while locals will be trained in giving maintenance and repairing the system.
