GE Installs 500th Wind Turbine in Brazil

GE Recognized as Number One Installer of Wind Turbines in Brazil in 2012 with 435 Megawatts
Represents Rapid Growth of Wind Energy in the Country
GE (NYSE: GE) today announced its 500th wind turbine installation in Brazil. The 1.6-megawatt (MW) turbine was installed at DESA’s 38-MW Eurus project in João Camara in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

”We selected GE for this project because of the company’s industry-leading technologies in wind power generation and its commitment to the industry here in Brazil,” said Carlos Augusto Leite Brandão, CEO, DESA. “GE’s reputation for technological excellence in Brazil made it the right choice for our Eurus project in Rio Grande do Norte.”

Wind energy is one of Brazil’s fastest growing energy sources. In 2012, 1,077 MWs of wind were added in Brazil[1]. According to Navigant Research’s BTM Report, “International Wind Energy Development: World Market Update 2012,” GE was 2012’s number one installer of wind energy in Brazil with 435 MWs. Every GE 2012 project was completed on schedule, allowing customers in Brazil to meet their power purchase agreement requirements.

“Installing our 500th wind turbine in Brazil is a significant milestone and further deepens the relationship our company has built with this country,” said Jean-Claude Robert, general manager of Latin America for GE’s renewable energy business. “We are proud to provide the technology and services necessary to help Brazil pursue wind energy opportunities.”

The company has operations throughout Brazil, including in Bahia, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
