The large majority of these proposed projects are in the state of Bahia, at 1.75 GW of PV and 240 MW of CSP. Energy Research Company (EPE, Brazil), which is conducting the auction, noted the large volume of solar projects at 15% of proposed capacity.
“With the fall which has been observed in PV panel prices, solar generation tends to gain space on the Brazilian grid,” says EPE President Mauricio Tolmasquim.
In addition to Bahia, the next closest state for volume of PV projects was Minais Gerais at 325 MW, followed by Paraíba with 254 MW of PV and 50 MW of CSP. The A-3/2013 auction is for plants to come online by January 1st, 2016.
The only other generation source with a larger capacity of projects registered than PV was wind at 15.0 GW.
